ACUA

• Description: ACUA is used to administer user accounts and to enforce access restrictions on Linux systems. ACUA is commonly used on systems with modem pools (ISPs, BBSs, school/business dialups), but it can be used on systems without modem pools. ACUA can help with many system administration tasks: temporarily "freezing" accounts, enforcing time limits on users, automatically deleting accounts, banning specific users temporarily or indefinitely, generating and reporting usage statistics, and much more.

• Description: Arla is a free AFS client implementation. The main goal is to make a fully functional client with all capabilities of normal AFS. Other planned and implemented things are all the normal management tools and a server.

• Description: Autonice is a simple perl-script intended for use on multiuser-systems. The script regularly surveys any cpu-consuming processes on the system, and if any process has been using more than a given amount of cpu-time (ie. half an hour) the process is reniced, and a mail is sent to the user. Autonice is known to run on Red Hat 4.1 and 5.x systems, both Intel and Alpha. As the script is quite simple it should run on any system using a crontab file and the /proc file-system and having Perl installed.
  

Barrendero

• Description: Barrendero is a program designed to keep free space in the mail spool directory by deleting messages older than a certain age from the mail files. It can warn users of the pending deletion ahead of time, as well as provide a report of the deleted messages.

• Description: Designed for ISPs (but useful elsewhere), Clobberd monitors subscribed users and can limit them to a total time, to a time limit per day, to a CPU limit, to a memory limit, or on a priority basis. Certain users can be designated exempt to the limitations.

• Description: fancylogin is one of the most powerful login programs available for Linux. fancylogin can do everything your old login program can do, e.g. handling shadowed passwd files, user-time-terminal/network-verification as done HP-UX login, etc. It adds a lot of capabilities for logging logins and support for themes to control the login's look.
  

getAlias

• Description: getAlias returns the contents of e-mail aliases from /etc/aliases or from yp if configured. If given a username getAlias will return a list of aliases the user belongs to.
  

No Login

• Description: A replacement shell for users whose accounts are suspended. By default, the program gives a generic message to users who attempt to log in with this shell. This message instructs the user to contact the system administrator by phone.
  

Nutcracker

• Description: Nutcracker is a simple, fast, and effective password checking utility for administrators. Using a dictionary file, like '/usr/dict/words', it will crack passwords in '/etc/passwd' or '/etc/shadow' files. Disabled accounts and accounts with no password are detected. Results are printed to a formatted table. A small dictionary file is included; larger dictionary files are available on the nutcracker homepage. Nutcracker is written in Perl and uses your systems crypt() function.
  

PDAddUser

• Description: PDAddUser is a tool that will add large amounts of users to your server from a simple list of full names (like Peter Davis, Joe Schmoe, etc). It will create user names (pdavis, jschmoe, etc), random passwords, and assign each user to a group and home directory.
  

ProcMan

• Description: Procman is a utility for automatically managing the processes of the users on the system. In its configuration file you can set a maximum number of processes that each user is allowed. Any processes exceeding this quota are killed. It can also optionally send the admin and user an e-mail of the action done.

• Description: urmcore is a shell script that efficiently finds and removes old core dumps. it uses the slocate(1) command to quickly locate files with the name "core" and then verifies that they are actually core dumps with the file(1) command (if it's on the system) and then removes it if it's been there for a while (4 days is the default).
