Feed The Penguin is a commitment from TUCOWS
to use its unique relationships, capabilities, and exposure as the Open Source Marketplace
to help make Linux more accessible and understandable to the end user.
The program will focus on three specific objectives:
- To inform, motivate, recognize and reward Linux developers.
New Titles - each month, TUCOWS LINUX will profile the most user friendly new Linux
applications. Each quarter, the developer of the #1 application will receive 500,000 free
advertising impressions (worth approximately US$20,000).
Popular Request - users will vote for the non-Linux application for which they would
most like to have a Linux version. TUCOWS LINUX will give 5,000,000 free advertising
impressions (worth approximately US$200,000) to the developer who produces it.
Research - Tucows will continually look for ways to help gather and share information throughout the Linux community.
Toward that goal, we would like to encourage all Linux developers to take 10-20 minutes to fill out this questionnaire (from
a research team at the University of Kiel). Its purpose is to better understand the motivation of Linux developers and the
success of the Linux development process in order to facilitate future Open Source projects.
The questionnaire is located at: http://www.psychologie.uni-kiel.de/linux-study/questionnaire.html
More details on the project are available at: http://www.psychologie.uni-kiel.de/linux-study
- To continue to improve Linux distribution.
Breed the Penguin - TUCOWS' mission to double its network of 200
TUCOWS LINUX affiliate partners in the next six months.
- To give users the information they need to choose and use Linux
Hot List - each month, TUCOWS will release its lists of top Linux downloads as a
"leader board" for users.
Linux Content - application libraries, distribution libraries, how to's, news,
reviews, etc.
FEEDback Forum - an initiative to filter non-technical user feedback into
the development process.
